Roger's reflections on grace, God and other grand topics

Why a Christian Must Believe All the Bible

It seems so logical to many to declare that we can’t believe all the Scriptures. After all, some parts are so hopelessly outdated…and we just know that we can’t say “Yea and amen” to everything we read.

Of course, “God is love”, and we should not “…judge, lest we be judged,” but most everything else is up for grabs.

However, such a stance turns Christianity on its head.

Because the Bible tells us who God is and how to know Him. And…if only certain parts of Scripture are true, then we will need to be smart enough. We will need to be wise enough to sort out what is true.

And if this is the case, then only intellectuals – those truly wise – can know God. Only the culturally sensitive and the academically modern will be capable of telling us, “God certainly is…or isn’t like…that!”

Do you see the problem? If not, consider who the Lord Jesus wanted in His Kingdom…

But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 19:14 (ESV)

It is not only the wise and intellectuals who can know God…but little children as well. And it is not only the knowledgeable and astute who can understand how to walk with Him and obey Him. It is not only the shrewd…who can be saved.

Instead, salvation comes to all those who have faith in Jesus Christ.

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.

1 Corinthians 1:20, 21 (ESV)
